Background
The Vice
Presidential election was necessitated by the early resignation of outgoing
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in July 2025 due to health concerns. This
triggered an unscheduled election just months ahead of its original timeline.
Radhakrishnan,
a seasoned BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, is known for his long-standing
association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and his reputation as a
calm, non-confrontational figure — qualities seen as assets for his new
constitutional role.
On the
other hand, Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy, a respected jurist, was the joint
candidate of the opposition alliance.
