Jharkhan Spirit, Giridih, September 21, 2025 – As per the directions of Hon’ble Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA), Ranchi, and under the guidance of the Hon’ble Principal District and Sessions Judge–cum–Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Giridih, a Jail Adalat-cum-Legal Awareness and Health Camp was organized today at Mandal Kara (District Jail), Giridih.
Addressing the program, Mr. Najmul Hasan, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, informed the inmates about the various types of free legal assistance provided by DLSA, Giridih. He said that under the guidance of NALSA, New Delhi and JHALSA, Ranchi, several initiatives are run from time to time for the benefit of prisoners, including the monthly Jail Adalat.
To ensure continuous legal aid for inmates, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) have been appointed from among the prisoners themselves. These PLVs stay in touch with the inmates, collect their applications and problems, and forward them through the jail administration to DLSA, Giridih. The authority takes immediate action to resolve such issues.
The inmates were advised to submit applications to avail the benefits of free legal services. New inmates were also informed by Jail PLVs about the availability of free legal aid lawyers. For prisoners who cannot afford private lawyers, advocates are deputed under the Legal Aid Defense Counsel system as per the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. These advocates represent the cases of such inmates regularly in the concerned courts.
Mr. Hasan also instructed the PLVs and Jail PLB members to keep organizing awareness programs among prisoners and ensure that no inmate is deprived of his legal rights. If any prisoner requires free legal aid, their applications should be immediately sent through the jail administration to the DLSA, Giridih, via email or office submission, so that free advocates can be provided without delay.
Along with the legal awareness session, a health camp was also organized, where inmates underwent health check-ups and were provided with free medicines and other essential items. Members of the Legal Aid Defense Counsel team were also present during the program.
