The deceased has been identified as Lalchand Mahto, who had travelled to Dubai in January 2026 in search of employment. According to family members, he worked there for nearly two months before being dismissed by the company. After losing his job, he struggled to survive in a foreign country. His difficulties worsened when he reportedly lost his passport and visa, leaving him stranded in Dubai and unable to return home.
The family had been making continuous efforts to bring him back to India. Following their appeal, efforts were underway to trace him. A few days ago, some workers from Jharkhand employed in Dubai managed to establish contact with Lalchand. They extended humanitarian support by providing him with food and were trying to help him return to India. However, they later informed the family that Lalchand had passed away.
The news of his death has plunged the family into grief.
After learning of the incident, social worker Sikander Ali, who works for the welfare of migrant labourers, visited the bereaved family and offered his condolences. He said the family's condition is particularly distressing as Lalchand's father, Dashrath Mahto, has been missing since 2013 after leaving for Mumbai. He appealed to the government to provide financial assistance to the family.
Sikander Ali said this is not an isolated case. Several migrant workers have previously become stranded abroad or lost their lives after travelling overseas in search of better earnings. He noted that bringing stranded workers back to India or repatriating their mortal remains often requires prolonged efforts.
