Road Blockade Demanding Suspension of Station In-Charge

Jharkhand Spirit, Giridih : Hundreds of protesters, including women and men, blocked the Jamua–Pachamba main road near Chittradih Hill on Friday morning, placing the body of murder victim Neeraj on the road. The demonstrators alleged negligence on the part of the Jamua Police in handling the case and demanded the immediate suspension of the officer-in-charge as well as capital punishment for those responsible for the murder.

The protesters also raised slogans against the Jamua Police, accusing them of failing to act promptly after Neeraj went missing.

Following information about the blockade, Inspector Pradeep Das reached the spot with a large police contingent and attempted to persuade the protesters to clear the road. However, they remained firm on their demands.

Neeraj's mother alleged that her son's murder was the result of police negligence. She said Neeraj, who was working in Rajasthan, had returned home for his wedding scheduled on July 7. After reaching Jamua on July 4, he was travelling to his village with his father when he received a phone call from his would-be brother-in-law, who asked him to wait for some time. Neeraj handed over his luggage to his father and stayed back, but never returned home.

When he remained missing until evening, the family became worried and submitted a missing person application at Jamua Police Station on July 5. According to Neeraj's mother, when she later asked the station in-charge about the progress of the search, he allegedly replied that he did not possess a "magic wand" to find her son immediately. She accused the police of showing indifference and delaying efforts to trace him.

Neeraj's body was eventually recovered on July 9 from the Bichkodwa area under Chakai Police Station limits in Jamui district of Bihar.

The road blockade continued till Saturday afternoon as district officials and police authorities remained engaged in talks with the agitating villagers in an effort to restore normal traffic.
