Jharkahnd Spirit, Deepak Mishra : The
auspicious Jitiya Vrat, also known as Jivitputrika Vrat, has
commenced today, 13th September, with the sacred ritual of Nahay Khay.
This three-day festival, observed primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh is dedicated to the well-being and long life of children.
On 14th
September, women will undertake a strict Nirjala Vrat, a fast
without food or water, as they offer prayers to Jimutvahan and Cheel
Siyarin—divine figures symbolizing sacrifice and maternal protection. The
festival is rooted in deep spiritual belief, tracing its origins back to the Mahabharata
era.
As per traditional lore, the spiritual power of Jitiya Vrat is so profound that even childless women are believed to hear the celestial sounds of a child, and children of women who pass away before conceiving receive divine protection through the blessings of this vrat
The three-day observance will conclude with the Parana (fast-breaking) ritual on 15th September 2025, which can be performed after 6:26 AM, marking the end of the vrat. Jitiya continues to be a powerful symbol of a mother's devotion and unwavering hope, transcending generations and deeply embedding itself in cultural faith.
