The deceased girls have been identified as 13-year-old Zahida Khatoon, daughter of Tufail Ahmed, and 14-year-old Gulabsha Parveen, daughter of Mukhtar Ansari — both residents of Chiruwa village.
According to school staff, both girls did not attend the morning prayer assembly. They left their school bags and went outside. About half an hour later, when they returned, teacher Jageshwar Prasad asked them where they had gone, but they did not reply.
The teacher then sent three students, including Zahida and Gulabsha, to bring their parents to the school. After some time, one of the three girls, Sana Parveen, came back with her parent. When asked about the other two, she said they had discussed that if they brought their parents, they would be questioned and scolded for being absent.
Sana also mentioned that the two girls had talked about sitting near a well for some time. It is suspected that out of fear of being scolded, they decided to end their lives by jumping into the well.
Soon after the news spread, villagers gathered at the spot. Many villagers alleged that the teachers might have scolded or embarrassed the girls, which could have caused them mental stress. They said that instead of sending the girls home, the teachers could have informed parents by phone or through a notice.
Local people are now questioning the working style of the school teachers after this tragic incident.
